We were tasked with setting up branding materials for a client recently which included logos in various sizes and formats for different social media platforms. Noticing that these specifications are useful info for our other clients, friends, and random acquaintances, we’re going to run a series of posts on best practices for different platforms.

Facebook is a popular and easy platform businesses can use to connect with their audience, build brand presence, and drive conversions. One thing that really turns off users is poor image selection, formatting and usage. Nobody wants to see a blurry squeezed logo in white, on a light gray background. Whether it’s your logo design, post images, or banner, understanding the optimal dimensions for each and how they are displayed is vital to ensure your content appears polished and professional across all devices.

Let’s take a look at image dimensions for Facebook business

  1. Facebook Business Profile Picture Dimensions:

Your profile picture (little circular image on your page) is your digital identity on Facebook. It appears alongside your posts, comments, and in search results. To maintain clarity and visibility, aim for a square image with dimensions of 180 pixels x 180 pixels or larger. However, Facebook displays this image at 170 pixels x 170 pixels on desktops and 128 pixels x 128 pixels on smartphones, so ensure your design remains legible at smaller sizes. We like to use images at least 250 pixels x250 pixels for retina displays.

  2. Facebook Cover Photo:

The cover photo spans across the top of your Facebook business page, making it a greatopportunity for branding and storytelling. The recommended dimensions for cover photos are 820 pixels x 312 pixels for desktop and 640 pixels x 360 pixels for smartphones. Make sure your important content is within the safe zone, which is 820 pixels x 312 pixels, as parts of the image may be cropped on different devices.

  3. Post Images Dimensions:

Fabulous visuals are essential for engaging your audience on Facebook. Whether you’re sharing updates, promotions, or informative content, the dimensions of your post images play an outsized role in their presentation. For the best display, use images with a resolution of 1200 pixels x 630 pixels. This size ensures your images appear crisp and clear on both desktop and mobile devices. Bigger can be clearer, use an aspect ratio of 1.91:1 for best results.

  4. Facebook Business Link Share Images:

When sharing links on your Facebook business page, the platform automatically generates a preview with an accompanying image. To control the appearance of these link previews and maintain consistency with your branding, ensure your link share images are at least 1200 pixels x 628 pixels. This size ensures high-quality display and maximizes visibility in users’ news feeds. If you are sharing a website you control, you can set the link images therein.

For event promotions on Facebook, an interesting cover photo can entice users to learn more and participate. The recommended dimensions for Facebook event cover photos are 1920 pixels x 1080 pixels.

  6. Facebook Group Cover Photo:

If you manage a Facebook group, the cover photo serves as a focal point for community members. Try for dimensions of at least 1640 pixels by 856 pixels to ensure your group cover photo appears crisp and clear across various devices.

  7. Facebook Profile Video Dimensions:

As an alternative to static images, businesses can also use profile videos. The recommended dimensions for profile videos are 820 pixels x 462 pixels. Additionally, make sure your video is between 20 and 90 seconds long and follows Facebook’s video guidelines for the best performance.
